Healdout allowed me to purchase the same day with a bit of a discount, let's just say that it's inconceivable that children pay the same price as adults..(abroad children don't pay to enter museums..)in Italy in addition to paying to see our beauties we still had to queue at the entrance and make do with the bags that couldn't get in...the monument is worth it but everything else is a bit of a disincentive

We had some trouble finding parking and navigating that so we were a few minutes late to the steps, and the gentleman let us right in at the front of the line, which was so nice! What a beautiful property, totally amazed at the Pisa tower and also the fallen angel statue.

When I checked the website, it mentioned that only children above the age of 8 can climb the tower. When buying the tickets via Headout, it stated that only 11-99 requires a ticket. My child is 9-year-old. Hence, I only bought two tickets, one for me and the other for my wife. I emailed the headout support team to confirm whether or not my child would need a ticket. I was informed that my child didn't need one. When I got there, it turned out that anyone climbing the tower will need a ticket if they are 8 and above.

We don't think it's OK if the ticket only allows a free visit to the toilet. After all, there is so much to see with the ticket that you can spend the whole day there. And I don't know anyone who only has to go to the toilet once a day. The friendliness of the staff is very poor.

Loved going up the leaning tower. Views were amazing. Museums were ok. Not really my thing but there were some interesting historical information. The main buildings I really wanted visit was the cathedral & Baptistery, but sadly they were not open to the public that day as there was a religious ceremony taking place. Shame as I had paid the full amount to visit all 6 buildings which is quite expensive to only be able to visit 4 of these.

It's an iconic trip but you need to leave bags in lockers away from the entrance to the tower. This wasn't clear so we wasted time taking bags to the lockets and had to requeue. The steps inside the tower are incredibly slippery. No handrails so I wouldn't recommend this trip if you have mobility issues

The explanation of the guide was excellent, my daughter learned many things, I could not do the tour because I had an accident in Rome and could not move, I understand that I could not support me, neither you nor in Italy, it seems that they are prepared to assist a person because they do not have services and being a Sunday and in high season because they were too busy but I was close and I could hear the explanations of the guide, I hope in the future to make the visit.

PisaLeaning Tower of Pisa

Things to know before booking your tickets

  • Timed entry is required to climb the Tower, with limited spots available every 15–30 minutes. The most coveted slots, like crisp early mornings or golden late afternoons can vanish 2 to 3 weeks in advance, especially in peak seasons like summers and holidays. Pre-booking ensures you don’t miss out on your ideal time to scale this iconic wonder. Book early!
  • You can experience it all for just €10 more with one flexible ticket; explore the Cathedral, Baptistery, Camposanto, and the Opera Museum at your own pace, starting from your selected date and anytime within the year. Only the Leaning Tower requires a timed slot.
  • Enhance your visit with a multilingual audio guide that explains the Tower’s tilt, the Cathedral’s symbolism, Baptistery’s legendary scale and Camposanto's impressive frescoes, making your experience a walk through history.
  • Cathedral access is free, but if you're visiting only the Cathedral, you'll need to queue up at the site to collect a free entry pass. However, when you book a Tower ticket or any Pisa Monument ticket, that pass is automatically included—so you skip the hassle and walk straight in.
  • A guided tour helps you see far beyond the architecture; at the Tower, you’ll uncover the ingenious fixes that saved it from collapse, and in the Cathedral, discover how every marble stripe carries centuries of sacred meaning. You can upgrade your tickets to include the tour of the entire Square of Miracles where each monument comes alive with stories of angels, secrets from Pisa’s maritime past, and the hidden symbolism carved into every column, fresco, and facade.
  • Before your Tower climb, your guide will share the fascinating history and unique quirks of its construction, so when you ascend solo, you're not just walking the spiral ramp, you’re retracing the steps of centuries with insight at every turn.
  • If you're traveling from Florence, this day-trip takes the hassle out of planning, round-trip transport is included, and you can choose between exploring Pisa at your own pace or enjoying a guided tour of the entire Monumental Complex, with Tower climb included and expert insights along the way.
  • The Leaning Tower involves climbing narrow, steep stairs and may not be suitable for people with mobility issues and cardiovascular conditions.
  • Due to safety concerns, children under the age of 8 are not allowed to climb the tower. Additionally, adolescents between 8-18 years should be accompanied by an adult.

  • It is not recommended for individuals with cardiovascular or muscular disorders to climb the tower.

Souvenir stalls: Numerous kiosks around the Tower sell souvenirs like T-shirts and jackets. Prices are reasonable, and while haggling is possible, it's not common.

  • The best time to visit the Leaning Tower is early morning or late afternoons to avoid large crowds.
  • If you're traveling with a child under 8 (tower climb is age-restricted), plan ahead so one adult can stay with the child while the other climbs—then switch turns if both wish to go up.
  • Carry a proof of age to be shown at the security check if visiting with a minor.
  • Backpacks are not allowed inside the monuments in the Complex. There's a cloakroom that stores luggage for free. However, if you're carrying large backpacks, consider storing them at luggage rooms outside the Pisa Complex.

Frequently asked questions about Leaning Tower of Pisa tickets

Is the climb to the tower safe?

The climb involves 273 steps and may not be suitable for individuals with mobility challenges, heart conditions, or vertigo. Floors can be uneven and slippery, so caution is advised. Children under 8 are prohibited for safety reasons and minors between the ages of 8 and 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Can I enter without a ticket?

No, access to the Leaning Tower of Pisa is ticketed. However, you can enter the Pisa Cathedral for free, provided you hold a ticket to at least one other attraction in the Monumental Complex.

Does buying tickets online cost more?

Yes, online tickets include a small booking fee. However, the convenience and guaranteed access make it well worth it, especially since walk-up inventory is limited and often unavailable after the morning rush. Plus, online bookings often allow you to bypass ticket queues, saving exploration time.

Can I upgrade my ticket after purchase?

If you decide to visit additional attractions beyond your current ticket, or want add-ons like a guide, you will need to purchase a separate ticket. Upgrading directly from one ticket type to another is not possible.

What happens if I miss my time slot?

Tickets are strictly time-bound. If you miss your time slot, you will not be allowed entry, and refunds are not provided. Consider arriving at least 15 minutes early to ensure timely access.

Can I book tickets a month in advance?

Absolutely! In fact, we recommend it. Tickets usually become available up to 60 days in advance, and popular time slots sell out quickly, especially during spring and summer holidays. Booking early means you’ll get your preferred date and time, plus peace of mind.

Do I need to pre-book tickets even during off-season visits?

While the demand may be lower during off-season periods, tickets are still limited due to daily quotas. Booking in advance is always recommended to secure your preferred time slot.

Are combo tickets worth it?

Combo tickets provide excellent value for those exploring beyond the Leaning Tower. For example, a ticket combining the Baptistery, the Pisa Camposanto, and the museums, in addition to the tower and the Cathedral costs less than purchasing individual entries for each attraction.

Why should I book a guided tour?

Guided tours enhance your visit by offering in-depth insights into the history, architecture, and significance of the Leaning Tower and its surroundings. Guides are available in multiple languages, including English, Italian, Spanish, and German, to cater to diverse audiences.

Can I upgrade my ticket after purchase?

If you decide to visit additional attractions beyond your current ticket, or want add-ons like a guide, you will need to purchase a separate ticket. Upgrading directly from one ticket type to another is not possible.

What else can I explore near the monument?

After visiting the Leaning Tower, take a stroll through Borgo Stretto to experience Pisa’s medieval charm or explore Piazza dei Cavalieri, a historic Renaissance square. For art lovers, Palazzo Blu offers captivating exhibitions within walking distance of the Pisa Monumental Complex.

Are there any kid-friendly ways to explore the tower?

Yes! Older kids, aged 8 and above, will love the climb and the incredible views from the top. For younger children, the Piazza dei Miracoli offers plenty to explore, from the Baptistry’s acoustics to wide-open green spaces perfect for an unwinding experience.

Can I bring my pets or service animals to the tower?

While pets are not allowed, guide dogs/service animals with the proper certification are welcome to assist you.
