The Quinta da Regaleira was the best sight we visited in Sinatra. Much better than the Pena Palace and much easier to get to, just a 10 minute walk from the center. Can easily spend 2 hours walking the grounds so if you you only have time for one do this one.
The space is just indescribable, at least in a way to do it justice. Stunning things to see at every turn. A glorious place to visit! No picture can do it justice. We loved exploring the caves and the well the most but so much more than that to do.
We were blown away by the Quinta da Regaleira. We spent 2 hours at the site. Enjoyed walking through the tunnel. The grounds were extensive with a lot to see.
The site was a magical place and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Spent about 3.5 hours exploring. Was a bit disappointed that the palace section was only 1 floor. I saw lots of map postings but I didn't see any "you are here" markers. Of course it was crowded but everyone was happy. I didn't see one person in a foul mood.
Quick and easy purchase. There was a queue at the entrance, which took about 30 minutes, and at some attractions too. You should allow more time for your visit. Very beautiful place!

We absolutely loved Quinta Da Regaleria! The castle and grounds were beautiful and fun to explore. We met Faisal at a meeting point just outside the castle. He was awesome! He made sure we had our tickets and then escorted us to the entrance making certain we all got in. Faisal provided a very helpful map and step by step recommendations to see everything. You won't be disappointed getting your tickets here!
We enjoyed the gardens & attraction once we had found our guide (the instructions weren't clear on the original booking info although he did WhatsApp me on the morning & I just didn't see it until afterwards!)
I bought a ticket online and it was the best thing I ever done because the lineup was huge and I went straight through and Audio guide explained all the points. It was a beautiful experience. I'm glad they did it and I will suggest it to all my friends
It was a good attraction, a relaxing outdoor walk through gardens and winding pathways. Some statues were still covered but the walk down the well was very cool. Note that it can get quite wet as you get to the bottom and walk through the tunnels. I found buying the tickets online was easy. I took the train to Sintra which was reasonable priced but when you got there it was a bit chaotic sorting out how to get to the top. I should have researched it better. Meeting with the rep was okay but took me a bit to find him. He was very pleasant and had great insight on the property as well as some fun history.
The palace itself is stunning, with intricate architecture and decor, but it’s the grounds that truly steal the show— just beautiful around every corner.
Easy way to buy. The place was gorgeous . Highly recommmeded. Do not miss the iniciation well
Very impressive. Bring good walking shoes.

The initiation well and caves. There's so much more to visit, it's well worth the effort.

It truly was a magical place that is fairytale-esque.
We were worried bc we saw some bad reviews for Headout. But our tickets worked perfectly and the audio guide was really great! And the palace grounds were very unusual and extremely interesting.
We had zero issues getting in using our electronic tickets. Having been here before, I brought a powerful flashlight with me for caves. A couple people even followed us through since using a cell phone flashlight is not very good. We will be back here again for sure. We love Quinta da Regaleria. We spent 4 hours here. I recommend taking every little side path that you find. So much fun.
Easy to buy tickets. Magnificent park. Signage in Sintra poor. No information at station. Very touristy!

The gardens were extensive and amazing. Mostly it wasn't too crowded. The Palace was interesting too. A better experience than Pena Palace.
Easy to get to. Quirky place. Worth a visit. Could do with being given a guide or map on entry. Had to wait for 45 mins in blazing sun for ticket time - no shade - no access to refreshments. That was poor. However they do run the gate very efficiently and we were allowed in in our every time. There is no flexibility on this whatsoever.

Tickets worked smoothly online. The palace is very beautiful, but very tourist crowded. To get into the palace there are time slots and long lines.

Bought tickets to Pena Palace while in Lisbon and taxied to the town. Once there found that there were too many add ons once at the site. Ie; extra bus rides, other tour sites. There were many visitors there the day we went and found the interior tour boring due to length of time shuffling people through the two floors. Would skip that tour the next time. The old town visit part way down the hill after the castle was a highlight for us. Took the train back to what we thought as Lisbon but due to no visitor help at the station ended up on the wrong train.

Had no problems with the tickets. Something came up for our group so we got there later than planned and couldn't enter the actual palace. It was still a great experience just enjoying the terraces and taking lovely photos. We actually wished we'd paid for the park only as we didn't feel like we'd missed much, not entering the palace.
The castle is beautiful and very original, park a haven of peace very nice day without hitch.transport very well organized

An enjoyable day in the company of Paulo SILVA who is a very professional guide and ensures that everyone gets the most out of the tour. I gave 4 stars because the description of the visit to the castle gardens is ambiguous. In fact, the most beautiful gardens don't belong to Pena Palace, but to other castles not included in the tour.

I was amazed by all of Sintra. The castles are wonderful but also the village itself is so beautiful and there are very nice places omnto eat.

The ticket process was easy. The palace was nice, but the walk up and the gardens are stunning 🤩 If you are fit enough I highly suggest taking the hike up in the morning.
The highlight of my visit was being able to find parking at the entrance to the garden after almost being scammed by the Tuk Tuk guys at the bottom of the hill. Luckily a local waived his finger to warn me not to park where guy was telling me to go. Garden was nice to hike up though on the sunny day. We did notice Giant Hogweed growing near path which is dangerous to touch though. The palace was amazing and the views are the best we have seen.
This place is perfect for a romantic stroll! The park is simply sublime! 🤩 We parked in Sintra and walked up to the palace through a park. It's a steep climb! But what satisfaction once we got to the top 😍

Online tickets were fast and easy. The park grounds weren't of much interest to us after seeing Moors castle and Pena Palace and all the walking for those sights. Pena Palace was ok. Not hugely glamorous. The mountaintop location is the most impressive thing.
Need a good half day to walk the grounds and palace. Didn't go inside but very satisfied with the outside areas. Steep walk up and not for someone with mobility issues.
Although the palace was very crowded, the place is incredible and we didn't have any problems with the tickets! We just queued up and waited for our turn to go in ☺️ It was amazing!

It was a great experience, just be mindful to arrive plenty of time ahead, to reach the palace it take around 10-15 walk uphill.
The tour was good. The palace is pretty amazing. The one thing that was a little bothersome was the fact that on the tkt it says that your time a lot is your time slot and will not be tolerated if missed, well it was , many ppl were arriving after their scheduled time. One thing that would be nice to be included is the length it can take to get from train station to the palace, the traffic was very congested and took longer than we thought it would. We were thankful we gave ourselves lots of time to get there
The castles are beautiful. They are worth visiting, but I do not recommend doing both visits on the same day. The distances between one and the other involve more than an hour's drive. The coaches run every 20 minutes. I wanted to stay longer at Quinta da Regaleira, and it was getting late to get into Quinta da Pena. I had to take a Bolt to get there on time. Calculate well the distances and how you are going to be able to travel.

Was a great experience however I only got 1 audio guide for Pena Palace only. The audio guide wasn't very helpful either. I just paused it to read the available description in each room as I found it to be more informative.
Charming places, consider the weather and especially the wind that can be very strong in the highlands. The places are to be visited in more than one day if you are a nature lover.

Fascinating palace with almost fairytale like extragances architecturally. The queues however were excessive despite entry system.
The palace is beautiful and its gardens. The worst thing is the hill to get to it and the need to arrive on time.

The experience was outstanding regarding the quinta da Regaleira, beautiful the garden part all to discover with the caves as icing on the cake is beautiful fairy tale atmosphere. On the other hand, less beautiful was the visit of the Pena Palace, the palace very nice to photograph in the outside part but how the visit inside is organized I did not like it: it is a perennial and endless line to see two rooms and you do not see them well because you have to keep walking as there are so many people.

The guide was fantastic! She was funny and knowledgeable and definitely made the visit memorable! It was also a small enough group that we were able to move around quick and easy. We also have plenty of time to take pictures and explore, but not so much that it prolonged the tour Too Much
The tour guides were amazing, incredible energy and the explanations were really clear!
The ticket experience was flawless and the guide was very knowledgeable, upbeat, on point and accommodated everyone on the tour. Vasco is a great guide.
Nuno was awesome !! Fun, super knowledgeable and made the palace come alive with his tidbits or information on the Knights Templar and the spiritual aspect of everything.
What I loved the most about this experience was how friendly our tour guide was. Lots of interesting fact and very personable.
A lot of fantastic history and information about the grounds. Definitely made the experience very rich and interesting. Clearly Jon was passionate about sharing as much as he could.
João was a great guide, he explained every detail of the buildings exactly and was super attentive. We had Brazilians, Spaniards and North Americans in the group, and João took care to respect all cultures and present the details in English and Spanish. Very good!

The background information that our guide gave us was great. She was also really good. Ticket purchase went smoothly. Starting time was somewhat delayed as we had to wait for a 2nd guide to lead a spanish group. I would have preferred to leave on time but understand that things don't always go according to plan. Don't know why our grop had to wait though as we weren't touring together.
Guide was very knowledgeable and a good communercater. Change to time from 11.30am to 12,00pm left us short of time for our next tour. We got a email yesterday morning confirming the time as 11.30am Our phone was not within wifi connection. Our guide did not know the time was changed. Others had got a message advising the change. Your communication system needs improving.
I am very happy that we chose the tour with guide. Our guide Jana from Estonia was great. She told us not only about Quinta da Regaleira but also other facts related to history of Portugal and Sintra. She took care of our small group during the tour. Thank you!
We really enjoyed our tour of Quinta da Regaleira! Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable! It was well organized & we enjoyed the small group setting.
Ines was absolutely brilliant. Very good and helpful and kind. Approachable and nice smile. Good English. The tickets were VERY expensive for us. We are parents with 3 kids 13,11,11 = €150 Any refund appreciated!
Our tour guide was fantastic - so knowledgeable! Beautiful grounds. The tour inside the castle is very minimal which was disappointing- I would have loved to walk through the kitchen, bedrooms, etc. Also thought it was odd our tour guide did not come in with us. We were a bit frustrated as we booked this tour in English, but when we met up we had a couple who needed the tour in Spanish - so took more time given he had to tell us everything in 2 languages- would not recommend doing this to others- for this I did not give. a "great" recommendation.
Carlos was great !!!...the group was to large and he had to transulate in 2 languages . This extended our time and lessened our experience of the tour. (Would not of booked it if we knew this before hand)
The guide Leonor , i hik is the name was fantastic.
Very enjoyable and entertaining visit. Joao treated us very well.

Guide was knowledgable, and answered my questions. Pace was good and was humorous . Thank you for a fun afternoon.
Beautiful place. Ines and Carlos were terrific!
It was very interesting and we really enjoyed the guide

Sintra harbors numerous opulent 19th-century villas, yet none rival the intrigue of Quinta da Regaleira. This majestic residence seamlessly melds eccentric, Neo-Gothic architecture with whimsically ornate features. However, the focal point of Quinta da Regaleira lies in its gardens. These are not the conventional grounds of a typical estate but rather the creation of an owner captivated by clandestine religious orders and mysticism.

The outside is something of an artistic labyrinth. The architecture combines elements from the Renaissance, Neo-Manueline, Egyptian, Gothic, and Moorish styles. You will find tons of gargoyles, capitals, gothic turrets, an octagonal tower, and interesting motifs, adorning the palace exteriors and rendering a mystical appearance.
Exquisitely carved fireplaces, gorgeous wooden ceilings, elaborate inlaid mosaic flooring, and Venetian glass mosaics make up the interiors of the mansion. Even though the palace has five floors, you can only visit the top floor. Formal areas like the dining room, music room, billiards room, and living room are on the first floor.
The Regaleira garden complex at Quinta is its finest feature. It is strewn with whimsical follies. The Promenade of the Gods is located on one of the main entrances to the estate. Along this walkway are numerous stone statues of Greek deities, including Venus, Hermes, and Dionysus, some of which are entwined with flora.
The most frequented location in the garden is an Initiation Well. Allegedly used for secretive Masonic rituals, the spiral staircase leads 90 feet down into the earth's interior. The well has nine platforms, which are compared to the nine circles of Hell, the nine regions of Purgatory, and the nine heavens that create Paradise in Dante's Divine Comedy.
A vast and mysterious network of tunnels with numerous access points, such as grottoes, the chapel, Waterfall Lake, and Leda's Cave, located beneath the Regaleira Tower, is part of the garden complex. A tunnel system beneath the Quinta da Regaleira garden can be reached from the bottom of the Initiation Well by a disguised entrance from the top.
The Regaleira Chapel is located in front of the palace's main entrance. Its design is similar to the palace. The chapel's interior is lavishly ornamented with murals, stained glass windows, and elaborate stucco. Along with other religious images, the frescoes feature images of Teresa of Vila and Saint Anthony.
Duration of Visit: 2 to 3 hours
Best Time to Visit: It is best to visit the Quinta de Regaleira during the months of May to October as the weather is pleasant. If you reach it in the early hours of the morning on weekdays or late afternoon, you will find the palace at its quietest.
