- Visit the Forum, the amphitheater and public baths.
While Rome is full of incredible sights, its location makes it perfect for day trips. You can easily explore over 25 nearby destinations, from the ancient ruins of Pompeii to the breathtaking cliffs of the Amalfi Coast. This guide will ensure your day trips are enjoyable and hassle-free, with all the details you need for a smooth journey.
Depending on where your day trip destination is, prices can vary from €85 all the way up to €299. You can expect to pay more if your experience includes a guide, food tasting, etc.
You can expect to board your AC coach/train from Rome (check your ticket as some experiences offer hotel pick ups), an expert driver who might sometimes also be your local guide, an exploration of the local delights of the destination, a potential meal and even some time to do your own exploration. At the end of the day, you will be dropped back at Rome. Do check your ticket thoroughly to understand what you can get out of a day trip.
From Rome, you can easily visit neighboring cities like Naples, Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Positano, Pompeii and Herculaneum.
That depends on how many stops are part of your day trip. If it’s more than 2 stops, you can expect to spend at least 2 hours in each area. If it’s two or less stops, you can spend between 4 and 6-6.5 hours in each location.
Yes. For example, if you’re booking the Pompeii and Herculaneum Guided Tour by High-Speed Train from Rome, you will take a high-speed train from Rome to Naples. From Naples, there will be transfers to Pompeii and Herculaneum that’s included in the ticket price. Don’t worry, travel hassle-free!
Yes, once you reach a stop you are allotted enough time to explore on your own, grab a bite, or click pictures.
Besides your ticket, you might want to set aside some money for the experiences you will likely indulge in on your day trip. These typically include:
Meals: If you’re dining at a much-hyped tourist destination like Amalfi Coast, expect to set aside at least €30-35 for a two course meal. In comparison, Naples is cheaper, with the average price ranging from €15 to 25 per meal. Note that these costs vary depending on the type of restaurant you go to — a gourmet experience will naturally be on the higher side.
Shopping: While this is entirely dependent on your preferences and purchasing power, it’s recommended to keep aside at least €40-50 to buy keepsakes like limoncello, and an additional €30-40 if you want to purchase, say, handmade sandals from Sorrento.
As these destinations are typically warm, wear comfortable and airy clothing in cotton and linen. For the style-conscious, it’s a great idea to sport sun dresses and skirts while visiting the coastal towns of Amalfi and Positano. If you’re visiting Herculaneum and Pompeii, wear sturdy shoes as these sites require quite a bit of walking.
Definitely! It’s a good idea to give children some context on the places they’re about to visit, so they can appreciate their visit better. Maps, interactive books, etc. on Pompeii and Herculaneum, for example, can pique their curiosity and encourage them to engage with the guide, etc. Carry snacks and light refreshments as the journey can take 2-3 hours depending on the destination. Once you arrive also, you might not be able to eat immediately. Note that Pompeii and Herculaneum are not stroller-friendly, so replace the wheels with a baby carrier.
Our tour guide Eduardo and bus driver Enrico and Pompei local tour guide Claudia were excellent!!!! Impressive Sorrento and Pompeii!
Overall our experience was great! Pompeii and Sorrento are beautiful but we did not see much of the city Cassino ,you just are stuck at a gas station. As someone with an autoimmune disease who gets hot way to fast I did really well on this trip!
What a journey!! And with our amazing guide Claire! A long trip but with plenty of cool stop overs in between to spread the day out and so much interesting information.Pompei! What an experience that will never been forgotten and Sorrento what a gorgeous part of the world! Highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you
What an incredible day trip! From start to finish, the experience was seamless and enriching. Our guide, Veronica, and our driver, Daniel, demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the region and its history. Beyond their expertise, what truly stood out was their warmth and professionalism. They treated every traveler with genuine respect, and their thoughtful, empathetic approach made everyone feel seen and valued. This journey was not just informative—it was deeply personal and memorable, thanks to their outstanding care and insight.
A break away from the city was great. The views were spectacular. Our guide Julia was helpful and knowledgeable. The driver knew the roads which made an enjoyable trip.
It was a great mix of seeing so many areas from the historic Pompeii to the beautiful town of Sorrento, mountains to sea and a stop off at a Limoncello factory. Perfect day and Flavio the guide and Luca the driver were amazing.
We had a fantastic day trip to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast! Sonia (without a Y) was a great guide, knowledgeable, and very friendly. The entire day was well-organized and enjoyable. Of course, the personal highlight for us was spending some time in beautiful Positano.
Heather was such an awesome tour guide and Luca was a great tour bus driver! Everything went awesomely smooth and we got to see so much in just one day! I would book with them in the future always.
Clair was our tour guide for the bus journey and she was excellent. She kept us up to date and informed during the whole trip. We really enjoyed the trip to Sorrento. A lovely town with lots to do re shopping. The visit to Pompeii was exceptional and so worth the visit. The guide had a really good knowledge.
I think it would have been easier for us to do Pompeii at the beginning of the day as it's very tiring. The rest is more relaxed, so it's perfect for the rest of the day. Thank you
This experience is perfect if you want to to spend a day to venture further afield from Rome. We got the chance to see Pompeii and to spend some time in the beautiful Sorrento. We weren't sure if we would have enough time in Pompeii but with the heat and lack of shade, we appreciated the time restraints and felt we had enough time in Pompeii. I'd highly recommend and it was the highlight of our trip.
The staff was very friendly and relaxed
Excellent trip. Driver, Guide and Archelogical guide at pompei are knowledgeable and very considerate towards us.
Trip to Posintina and Pompeii guided tout
The staff were wonderful, kind and helpful. They made it a very enjoyable day. Thank you.
The guide was so kind and friendly. Overall, it was a great tour
Gianni was very good guide and the whole day was brilliant
Natascia and driver Sergio were fantastic on a very long day. We had a fantastic day. Thank you.
Very well run and organised, our guide and driver were both fantastic... Could not fault the day.

The tour was great there was a guide on bus that told you a Little about what you were seeing and a bit of history. Only wish we could have stopped at the top of Mount Vesuvius. Tho you do get to stop at an observation spot for a few quick pics. The guide we had at Pompeii was excellent she was very knowledgeable and fun. Also she tried to keep you in the shade as much as possible. The pizza place was alright only problem is drinks weren't included and it's 4 euros for a coke. There then that it was an awesome experience!
Christian may be the best bus driver in the world! My guy has got skills, not only did he get us there and back I was so impressed I just had to tip him 20 Euro for a safe travel day! Mara was incredible, friendly and outgoing, she was extremely knowledgeable not only about destinations but sites along the way. She enhanced the ride by providing us music that was born from the locations she was telling us about giving us a deeper appreciation for the entire country of Italy and not just our paid destination spots! I would definitely recommend these two together if you're lucky enough to get them!
We recently took a day tour from Rome to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, and overall, it was a well-organised and memorable experience. Positives: Our guide from Rome was really friendly and knowledgeable, which made the day enjoyable and engaging. The tour itself was well organised, with everything running smoothly and on time. We had a lovely group of fellow travellers, which added to the experience. The Pompeii excursion was excellent – fascinating, informative, and definitely the highlight of the day. However, the guide could have been more engaging and lacked passion. She also didn't read the audience well and took us to the red light districts, going into detail about sexual organs, lustful actions, and took us to a whore house, with our young teenagers. Smaller kids were also on other tour doing the same route, which is ridiculous! Other things to be aware of: The pit stop halfway through the journey was quite expensive, so it's worth bringing your own snacks if you're on a budget. Lunch at the included restaurant was okay, but the main pizza (a margherita) was disappointing – the tomato purée lacked flavour, and overall the food could have been better. The toilets at the restaurant were poor, with some not flushing – not ideal on a long day trip. The Mount Vesuvius portion of the tour, the second part, only takes you about two-thirds of the way up by tour bus. There's no option to walk to the summit on this particular tour. That said, the views from where we stopped were absolutely stunning and well worth seeing. Overall: A worthwhile trip if you're looking for a convenient way to explore Pompeii and get a glimpse of Mount Vesuvius, but a few practical details could be improved.
Sasha was a great tour guide! I really liked him and the gentleman driving our bus. I do wish that the event at Pompeii lasted longer, I would honestly have traded time at the 4 or 5 stops to spend more time at Pompeii. It felt like every stop was a predatory way to lead us into shops that were likely paying you folks to take us there and spend money. I did not enjoy the vibes of being taken to a jewelry shop without any forewarning. Once again I really enjoyed our tour guide, he was funny, intelligent, and sentimental/ respectful of the dead. I just wish the tour company "I <3 Rome" was better. Cheers, hopefully you take this as critical and not derogatory.
The Trip is designed in a bad way. Transfer to Sorrento takes a long time so finally you have only 1 hour at the city which is mostly used for the lunch (only opportunity to eat) then heading back towards Pompei takes another hours. As a result you have only about 2 hours for visiting Pompei (which, when you do not know the place, is hardly enough for even a quick tour), and almost no time to walk around Sorrento. Perhaps starting trip a hour earlier would give some additional time and probably help avoiding morning traffic jams when leaving city.
It was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Many thanks to our guide, Antonini, who explained everything with love and patience and took care of us, to Luca, the driver for making our journey comfortable and smooth and to Willy, our guide in Pompeii, with a great sense of humor, who made the visit very enjoyable. Thank you for everything and for taking such good care of us. Grazie per tutti! A big hug!
Everything was very well organized. The guides were very nice and friendly. The guide in Pompeii was also nice and conveyed the knowledge well. The food was great, but I would have liked them to explain to us what exactly was on the table. On the Versuv we went up by bus and straight back down again. We would have liked to have been able to walk up a bit more. All in all, a very nice trip, as long as you don't mind long (very long) bus rides
I was unimpressed by Positano and Pompeii. The driver and guide were good but there were too many hours on the bus.
Pompei and the Vesuvius
1. Pompeii tour 2. Lunch 3. Mount Vesuvius visit
I loved both tour guides, the time in Sorrento, the limoncello tasting, and loved the tour of Pompeii.
It was great trip with fantastic guides and ofcourse best driver in Italy.
I’d recommend this to others because
Everything was perfectly organized, accompanied in a friendly, committed and informative manner.
9 hours inside a bus. 50 minutes for a Quick Lunch in Sorrento where theres nothing to do in that time and 2 hours for a fast visit to Pompei. Not a goof way to organize a visit like this. Not doing it again.
The transport to activity ratio was not acceptable. The trip to Sorrento was in our opinion unnecessary as our aim was visiting Pompeii - i.e. we drove in the wrong direction for too long. We would have preferred more time in Pompeii as we ended up only having two hours and our guide had initially from the beginning informed us that we would have four hours.
I did an extensive chat with your people WHILE on this tour. Your info said we would have 3 hrs in Pompeii; contracted tour operator said 1.5 hrs only. We waited far too long for people in Sorrento (45 mins before leaving w/o them) and then had to wait for the guide to return at Pompeii (45 mins) although he told us to be back at a certain time. So misguided. Never got "skip the line" tix, although prepaid. After doing extensive research for the tour with the most time in Pompeii were we were both extremely disappointed!!
Very bad and boring trip we didn't enjoyed

The cruise. Too much time in Positano and not enough in Amalfi
Great views, the food at LE TRE SORELLE was amazing. HOWEVER, the trip is at high risk for failure due to tight timelines, distance/traffic weather on open roof boats, boat timelines, and overcrowding. Bus drivers are on a strict timeline required by law and this trip pushes those boundaries. Bathroom opportunities are very limited (none on the bus), that coupled with the tight timeline led to a point that the guide was rude to other passengers due to them not getting an opportunity to use the restroom before boarding the bus for the return trip. Overcrowding at the venues shortened our time in the locations, forcing us to get in the boat lines 30-45 mins early in order to met the next time hack. Overall felt very rushed.
Our guide, Sammie, was excellent. We had plenty of time to enjoy Positano, which was great. However, the overall bus and boat trip felt quite long.
Sight seeing and the trip organization.
The trip was a diaster. Because of an accident we dus not make it to the ferry. We booked this trip because we wanted to go to the Amalfi coast. We did not reach there. I have payed € 750 for a trip that was not the trip we expected. If I knew this before I would have never spend so much money. It's a great loss for me and my family.
If your your guide is a Turkish person named Semih Topaloglu, please don't go in the tour. He will pretend to be really nice but in real is extremely rude and unpleasant. At the end of the tour, I asked him if I can use the toilet for just 2 mins. he got really upset and said he will not wait and will leave with the group. I asked him this when I saw the toilet right in front of me. I reached the bus before the rest of the group. There was no point in shouting at the top of his voice and saying so rudely in front of the entire group. Also, he is not safe with women as I saw him constantly trying to be with only one single girl trying to woo her and get to somewhere we all know about.
Our guide Angela was great and the bus driver Giovanni incredible. Too bad the strong wind prevented us from visiting Amalfi. You can't control the weather... To be repeated
l dunno how this got rated as awesome. The trip was good but it could have been better. The tour guide Semih was amazing and kept it fun, but we hardly got to spend anytime in either of the island. Would have been better off to just go to one island and spend some quality time there, rather than hurrying and visiting two. Would not recommend this tour for that reason.
The tour guide was very nice and the location was also very beautiful. However, I would have liked more information about the itinerary in advance.
Our tour director, Fabriztia, was so good and knowledgeable, just the right amount of information to entertain and enlighten. The destinations were beautiful and the transportation was clean and punctual. I would definitely recommend.
Beautiful city's, great and professional guide .
Our tour guide was so attentive and the best one we had 20 day trip to Europe!!
The scenery was great. The ride was great. Please arrange more time for Almafi and Positano. Visits
We had only 2 hours in Positano which is not enough , most time in the bus .
We paid for Amalfi and Positano, but they only took us to Sorrento, the CityWonders agency decided to take us only to Sorrento because of the weather conditions.

Ms. Delavina is an excellent tour guide! She explained in detailed the different regions and wines along the way to Monte Ponciano. The meal at the sister's restaurant was delicious with the exception of the waiters taking our plates away while we were still eating. As a paying customer, I felt disrespected and was not allowed back to enjoy my limoncello. I had never had it but I did a very nice restaurant in Rome, so after all I tasted it! And that's what it counts. Andrea is an excellent driver and attentive to the road signals. We felt very safe with him. Regards, Luz Dunn
Amazing, trustworthy, clean, and informative. Ciara our guide was patient with the forgetful and the slow (which was me :!), engaging and knew her stuff. I appreciated she'd share details and personal experiences. She is a great guide. This is a great organization and well managed.
Everything, good planning. Guide very good and knowledgeable.
Our tour guide and driver were so kind, informative and great! Thank you❤️
Barbara was a wonderful tour guide giving us lots of information and making the long bus ride fun!
Very nice experience, Kiara very kind and nice, the organization was excellent. I really recommend it
The tour was very well organized, with expert guides (Sonia is a sweetheart) who made every stop interesting and enriching. If you are thinking of visiting Italy, I definitely recommend including Tuscany in your itinerary, it's a destination to fall in love with and leave unforgettable memories! Also included is a divine lunch with local products, made by the owners themselves. Very nice experience, I would definitely come back.
The best part was the tour guides. They were nice and had a lot of knowledge making the tour experience very enjoyable. The nus ride was also very comfortable.
Had a great time. Beautiful scenery despite the rain and really enjoyed the meal and wine tasting at the vineyard.
Mini bus was a little biy in conevient for a little bit inconvenient, but it was a plesant trip in any cae and first experience to touch Toscana. Thanks a lot.
The landscape and our tour guide were exceptional. Tuscany is breathtaking. Ticket purchase was seamless and affordable.
John our tour guide was absolutely fantastic!!! Informative, fun, and extremely awesome!! I can’t say enough good things.
Very informative and our Guide John was super motivated and made the best of our day to be the most beneficial. His advises were proceless. This daytrip was worth eevey penny we paid
My friend and I were so thrilled with the tour. The transportation was comfortable and the food and wine were amazing. Of course, spending a day under the Tuscan sun was a dream come true.
From the Montepulciano to Sant'Antimo Abbey to Pienza, we explored so much. The three-course lunch and the wine tasting were great too. This was a great trip.

Our tour guide Aaron and his driver Miro are the best!!!
Aaron and the driver were amazing and kind. Aaron answered all questions, shared very good recommendations of where to go and what to do during this trip. I loved the communication, how he sent message an hour before the trip and how he sent the link to the meeting point. I hope to use amigo tour on other trips. Highly recommended.
Good tour guide and effecient driver. Well informed and speaks well in English and Italian. very friendly and approachable, really caring personality.
Trip was long but very well put together. The tour guide was good and explained the history of each place well. Tour was a mix of English and Spanish which was hard to follow at times. We expected more information about places visited but due to the timings it was overall a good tour and would recommend it to others. Be prepared for a full 14 hour tour.
