We had a great time thanks to our guide Gil, who was full of humor and patience given the crowds and the lack of respect shown by some of the other guides.

Absolutely gobsmacked with the Vatican. The attention to detail in the building and painting of this sacred city is quite overwhelming. There is just so much beauty going on and the effort and time to create this place wow. i just cant fathom how it was possible. Truly astonishing!!!

Such a good day and well organised from the staff to get in and see each exhibit. Best part was the museum in the colosseum and being able to walk down to the stadium ground level to see how big the colosseum truly was.

The fact of having your ticket cut in line, the set time and the row to follow. I highly recommend buying a ticket from headout, which also gives you plenty of warning one hour before the attraction, so you don't forget. It's true that there are different sites with different prices offering tickets for different attractions, but headout remains a reliable site.

+2 more

You have to arrive 15 minutes before the time shown on your ticket, and if you arrive before then you're sent back to the beginning of the queue - an interminable queue! otherwise it went very well, the audioguide worked well and it allows you to find your way around the monument thanks to its integrated GPS.

An unforgettable visit to the Colosseum thanks to our guide Said! His explanations were clear, full of anecdotes and very lively. You could tell he knew his subject inside out, and really enjoyed sharing his knowledge. Thanks to him, we discovered the Colosseum from a whole new angle, far beyond what you'd find in the usual guidebooks. Many thanks to Said for this fascinating experience!

Things to know before booking Roman Forum tickets

  • Book ahead to secure entry: Being the part of Colosseum Archeological Park, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill are among Rome’s most visited sites. Standard tickets can sell out quickly, especially in high season (Jun–Aug). Book at least 2–3 weeks in advance for morning slots or guided tours. Low season (Jan–Feb) may allow same-day tickets, but availability is never guaranteed.
  • What the basic ticket includes: Standard tickets include timed Colosseum entry and 24-hour access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Your chosen time slot is for the Colosseum; explore the other sites before or after at your own pace through temples, basilicas, and imperial palaces.
  • Guided tours vs. self-guided: Guided tours provide historical context for temples, arches, villas, and sacred spaces, making the Forum’s vast layout easier to follow. Small-group tours (<15 people) are ideal for intimate exploration, while audio guides are a flexible, budget-friendly alternative.
  • SUPER Sites Pass & restricted areas: Upgrade to the SUPER Sites Pass for exclusive access to seven restricted sites: House of Augustus, House of Livia, Temple of Romulus, Aula Isiaca & Loggia Mattei, Domus Tiberiana, Santa Maria Antiqua, Curia Iulia, and the lower floor of Palatine Museum. Ongoing exhibitions at select sites are also included.
  • Seasonal tips & crowd management: Morning visits and shoulder seasons (Apr–May, Sep–Oct) are generally quieter. Free-entry days (first Sunday of the month) are extremely crowded, and restricted areas like SUPER Sites are not accessible on these days.
  • Accessibility & practical advice: Paths are mostly open-air with uneven stone surfaces—comfortable shoes are essential. Some areas may not be wheelchair accessible. Bring water and sun protection for a more enjoyable experience.

Stay hydrated
  • Start at the Palatine Hill entrance to enjoy panoramic views of the Forum ruins and get a better spatial understanding before descending into the heart of the Forum.
  • Use a detailed map or app that includes lesser-known sites like the House of the Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina to avoid missing hidden gems.
