We loved our guided tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Maria, the guide, was funny and nice. She also made sure to find shaded areas for us to stand in as much as possible since the day of the tour was extremely hot.

Many thanks to our guide Said for this fascinating tour of the Colosseum, the Palatine and the Roman Forum! Thanks to him, history really came to life, even for our 13 and 17 year olds, whom he managed to put on stage! Clear explanations, lively anecdotes and well-judged humor: a real family pleasure. An enriching, fast-paced visit, conducted with passion and kindness. We highly recommend Said, who even recommended a good restaurant at our request!

I fell in love with Roma since playing Assassin's Creed games and after seeing it with my eyes, I'm still surprised how on earth everything was built...

Seeing the Colosseum for the first time was a wow moment. But getting inside was just amazing and with the full experience of being taken around by our knowledgeable tour guide from Inside Out Italy made it quite special. The highlight was of course seeing the whole of the Colosseum from the arena floor but we also got taken up and round different floors and seeing it from different angles. Then after the Colosseum you're taken across to the Roman Hill and Paletine. So all in all it was what I would call a thorough tour the only bit we didn't see up close was the underground part of the Colosseum but you get to see the central underground section from the arena floor anyway. Well worth doing.

An unforgettable visit to the Colosseum thanks to our guide Said! His explanations were clear, full of anecdotes and very lively. You could tell he knew his subject inside out, and really enjoyed sharing his knowledge. Thanks to him, we discovered the Colosseum from a whole new angle, far beyond what you'd find in the usual guidebooks. Many thanks to Said for this fascinating experience!

The guide, Said, was engaging and very professional. She went well beyond the time of the visit as she understood that we were involved and interested in her explanations. The booking site worked well and the directions to the appointment were also clear and thorough. I will certainly have more experiences with you. Recommended!

First impressions

Hear the roar of ancient Rome from the moment you enter through the arched gates. The Colosseum is dusty, enormous, imperfect—and all the more real for it.

Atmosphere & architecture

Walk beneath weathered arches that have stood longer than entire empires, and notice how the air shifts, becoming cooler, quieter, heavier.

Inside the amphitheatre

Walk the original stands where 50,000 Romans once watched warriors and wild beasts battle for glory, or, survival.

Arena floor perspective (optional upgrade)

Stand on the reconstructed arena floor and see the Colosseum from the perspective of a gladiator, surrounded by towering stone tiers.

Underground access (optional upgrade)

Opt for underground access to explore the hypogeum where hidden tunnels and trapdoors once staged the Empire’s deadly games.

Extend your experience

Most visits last 60–90 minutes and include access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, adding depth to your ancient Roman adventure.

Why choose a guided tour

Standard entry is awe-inspiring, but guided tours unlock the stories behind the stone. Additionally, the skip-the-line perks dodge the tourist crunch.

Things to know before booking Colosseum experiences

  • Book ahead for special access: Standard tickets may be available same-day, but Arena Floor and Underground Tours sell out fast. Book these at least 1–2 weeks in advance.
  • What’s included in a standard ticket: You’ll get 24-hour access to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill, with one entry per site. Guided tours aren’t included.
  • Arena & Underground need separate tickets: Regular tickets don’t get you onto the Arena Floor or into the Underground. These require special access and offer a much deeper experience.
  • Skip-the-line ≠ no line: Everyone goes through security. Skip-the-line just means you bypass the ticket desk, so expect some wait even with priority entry.
  • Guided tours help make sense of it all: The ruins are layered and signage is sparse. A guide ensures smoother navigation, hidden insights, and context you’d likely miss solo.
  • Choose your tour style wisely: Group tours are economical; small groups feel more personal. Private tours suit families or deep history buffs.
  • Accessibility notes: The Arena Floor and upper levels aren’t wheelchair accessible, but the main level is. Free entry for disabled visitors + one companion.
